Aleksander's 1st Birthday Party!

Aleksander's 1st birthday party was simple! That is the best way to describe it. We had his party on the weekend following his actual birthday. I was out early with invitations, a month early but that didn't seem to matter as the majority had other plans, which left only two families available to come and celebrate Munchkin! This time around we only invited family and our dearest friends who have been most involved during his first year of life. Naturally I was very disappointed, especially as I try to diminish the 2nd child syndrome..."they get less". Enzo had two parties for his 1st birthday, one while we were in the states and then one when we got back here. I was determined for Aleksander to have a rockin' 1st birthday which is why I was so early out with the invites. If the weather permitted I had planned to have a picnic in the park, with homemade lunch sacks and dessert. But when we started to get a bunch of "I'm sorry, we can't make it" I was deflated and was wondering what kind of party would this end up to be. Good thing he is only a year because he had no idea what was going on anyway...but I do wonder how he'll feel when he looks back at the pictures one day.

Since there were only two families coming I kept it simple. Instead of having food, we offered just dessert or fika. I made raspberry bars, chocolate chip cookies and red velvet cupcakes.
With those three things alone I spent the greater portion of the morning in the kitchen, but that was fine by me because I love to bake...or maybe I just love the end result ;) !!

Birthday cupcakes and cookies!

Simple decor.

Henke and Enya (from the Rosenquist family)

Some of the boys playing. Liam, Enzo and Aleksander.

He has come into the super clingy phase, aka separation anxiety so in the beginning he just wanted to be in my arms.

Kids playing, grown ups chatting.

Time to sing "Happy Birthday" and this time around we had a real birthday candle.

Mattias decided to be beside him so that he would finally end up in a few pictures. Aleksander is looking at us while we are singing, wondering what the heck we are doing.

Pissed that he can't attack that cupcake.

Mad at Mattias for pinning him down.

Anticipation...ready to dive in!

Open wide and inhale!

Approved! And this time around, I didn't cheat on the frosting...I did the real deal, cream cheese frosting. Enzo got unsweetened whip cream frosting on his 1st birthday.

Enzo, Isak, Andreas and Noah. I think they are ready for their own cupcakes.

Enya enjoying a cupcake without frosting.

Satisfied and enjoying the sugar rush.

Looks like he is going into a sugar coma...poor thing!

The boys hanging out.

Time to open gifts!

Of course the ribbon was really exciting. The small things that entertain little ones.
